The principle of ultrasonic cutting is quite different from the traditional mechanical cutting method. It uses ultrasonic energy to heat and melt the plastic cut surface, so that the plastic material can be cut. Therefore, ultrasonic cutting does not require a sharp cutting edge, nor does it require a lot of pressure, which will not cause breakage and damage to the part of the cutting edge that is in contact with the material. At the same time, because the cutting tool is vibrating ultrasonicly, the friction resistance is very small, and the cut material is not easy to adhere to the blade. This is especially effective for cutting sticky and elastic materials (such as food, rubber, etc.) or objects that are difficult to apply pressure.

 

There are two basic types of polymers: thermosets and thermoplastics. Ultrasonic plastic cutting knife is suitable for cutting thermoplastic products. Thermoset plastics undergo irreversible molecular changes during processing and become permanently insoluble and meltable. They cannot be melted or transformed in their final state. Thermoset plastics are hard, brittle substances that degrade when exposed to intense heat. Therefore, thermoset plastics are not suitable for ultrasonic cutting. Thermoplastics soften when heated and harden when cooled, and can be reheated and reshaped. Since the ultrasonic cutting process depends on the material's ability to soften, thermoplastics are well suited for ultrasonic cutting.
