20K Ultrasonic Assist Drilling
Introduction:
Ultrasonic-Assisted Drilling is a promising operation for machining hard-brittle and hard-ductile materials. It is applied in manufacturing parts that are characterized by their high precision including optics, dental parts, and electronics. Evaluation of the cutting force is important since it directly influences the consumed power, tool life, dimensional accuracy, and surface integrity of the machined parts. The cutting force in UAD is smaller than that in the Conventional Drilling (CD). In UAD, the cutting force is directly affected by the cutting conditions such as the ultrasonic frequency and amplitude. Moreover, the properties of the part material like the hardness and fracture toughness affect the process behaviour. Different mathematical models have been developed to estimate the UAD cutting force based on the kinematics of the process, the cutting conditions, and the physical properties of the part material.
